Squid & Octopus

Octopus and squid are two of the most well-known cephalopods and they’re used in cuisines worldwide. We strive to offer our customers only the best quality, expertly sourced octopus and squid you can buy. Octopus in particular is very rare in the retail sector and lends itself better to restaurants and fine dining environments. Squid on the other hand is often sold as battered calamari rings in supermarkets or salt and pepper fried squid in takeaways and restaurants. Squid’s flexibility and higher availability give it the edge over octopus with consumers in the UK. But anyone who has sampled a traditional Mediterranean octopus dish will be quick to say how much more indulgent and meaty it is. Buy from us with confidence knowing that our range is entirely sustainably sourced and never compromises on cost, quality or customer service.

Octopus

Octopus is prized across the Mediterranean and is considered a real delicacy. Not easily attained from most supermarkets and more expensive than lobster, octopus is marvelled by top chefs across the country. A versatile ingredient that will take on flavours from the herbs and spices it’s cooked with. It’s low fat and high in protein, making it an excellent and nutritious addition to your offerings. The freezing process of the octopus benefits the end quality of the meat. Whilst the octopus is thawing, the meat is tenderised, leaving you with a fresher, more succulent product to work with.

Octopus tentacles are a favourite on any Mediterranean menu. Delicious fried or sliced into salads; one of the most popular ways to cook an octopus is on the grill. This helps add extra flavour and texture. Make sure the tentacles you’re using have been pre-cooked or else you’ll need to boil them before grilling. This is to make the tough connective tissue collagen in its muscles melt into soft gelatine. Once they’re ready to grill, soak the tentacles in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper before adding them to a preheated grill. Serve whole or dice into cubes to add to a curry, risotto or kebab.

Squid

Squid is a favourite amongst many seafood lovers, and over the past few years, we have noted a rise in its popularity in the retail and foodservice sector. More chefs are incorporating this unique ingredient into their menus. It is so versatile; it can be stuffed, baked, grilled or pan-fried. One of our most popular products is our squid tubes. These have been cleaned and prepared, so you do not have to do anything for preparation, simply defrost, and cut or cook to your needs. We also have a range of breaded and battered squid and whole baby squid. Primarily sourced from Asia, our supply of squid is consistent and stable all year round.
